5 tips to drink (more) water

It is very important for our bodies to drink at least 1.5 liter of water per day. According to doctors, dietician and other specialists, drinking water would allow the body to hydrate our organs, enhance our metabolism, have a better skin texture and lose weight.

However, in our everyday life, it is hard to respect this tendency. Between commuting, going to work, to school, or even weekends, it is almost impossible to follow this! That’s why I wanted to share with you my 5 techniques to drink more liquid more often.

I always keep a 1.5L on my desk at work. I fill it in the morning and I create the challenge of drinking it during the day. I like this technique because I see exactly what I drank throughout the day.

To ensure that I drink enough, I try to divide that bottle into 2 to drink half of it in the morning and half of it during the afternoon. During busy days, I find it harder to think about drinking but I usually drink my 1.5L at work this way. Before drinking, I pour my water into another portable cup (such as a plastic Starbucks cup). Therefore,I can drink while working and without thinking about it.

Sometimes it gets boring to drink water, so it can be a good alternative to drink other things. Tea can be a good alternative as it is detoxifying, or to even drink water either with a syrup or with simply lemon. I personally love to mix my water with lemon, it makes me drink my water 10x faster and it is so refreshing! Another great alternative is to put fruits directly in the water bottle, such as lemon, lime, mint or even strawberries. Anything with a little bit of fruits and veggies is always a good idea!

At the gym or when outside, a 1.5L of water can quickly become embarrassing (go out light, right?). Whenever I go to the gym or decide to go for a walk in my neighborhood, I pour my water into a smaller cup (Starbucks, mason jar), closed and hermetic. And since I want to get rid of it ASAP, I drink it faster!

Nowadays, there’s a lot of apps outta there to track your water consumption. I use it a lot during weekends because I keep my big 1.5L bottle at work. My favourite is “water reminder” because I like the man whom is filled with all the water we drink! However, you can also track your consumption through most of the calories counter or workout/fitness apps, such as MyFitnessPal, or Fitbit.

It is important to define goals and stick to it, but sometimes I have a lot of work and it is not always possible to drink enough. It is not the end of the world and I tell myself I will drink more the next day. However, keep in mind that if you are thirsty it means that you are already dehydrated, and on the other scale, don’t pee transparent water because it means that you are drinking too much and over using your kidneys.
